I'm a huge fan of fashion art films and I recently came across this delightful video that was shot recently during this month's Milan men's fashion week. Images from the ad campaign for David Beckham's underwear collection for H&M hit the web this week and there has been quite a bit of buzz around whether or not his shorts are stuffed, rather than about the actual collection itself. I could care less about the former and this quote unquote collection is a bit of a *yawn* for me. To be honest, I expected a bit more design from Mr. Beckham, but maybe these photos just don't do justice to the collection? Maybe the textiles of this underwear collection are high quality, provide extra support in all the right places and contain wicking materials that keep the wearer's body dry? Then again, maybe not. Meh...

Here's the full runway presentation for the Versace and H&M collaboration that's been all the buzz on the social nets recently. You might recall I wasn't feeling the collection initially, but seeing the pieces styled in this show has definitely made me realize the potential in some of the pieces. The women's pieces are definitely still better than any of those found in the men's collection and the collection looks SO much better sashaying across a runway. I'm kinda entertaining the men's studded leather pants, but I guess I'll see how I'm feeling on November 19th when this collection hits select H&M stores worldwide.

Moby in Concert: Toronto October 24, 2011

Earlier this week, Moby stopped in Toronto to perform in support of his new album, Destroyed. In my youth, as a teenager in Edmonton, I used to dream about and would have given anything at the time to see Moby perform any of his huge techno hits like Go or Drop a Beat.

Well roughly twenty years later, my teenage dream came true and I'm delighted to say that seeing Moby in concert was well worth the wait and he completely proved he's still an electronic dance music force to be reckoned with. Moby kept the audience moving all night long and he played all of his hits including: Go, Disco Lies, Porcelain, Feeling So Real, Southside, Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad, Bodyrock, Honey and more. Needless to say I've been on a Moby tip all week and I've come to the realization that all of Moby's hit singles are just as relevant today as they were when they were first released-- totally timeless and eargasmic! Versace for H&M 2011

This is the men's Versace diffusion collection for H&M that hits select H&M stores on November 19. Versace isn't really my cup of tea and this collection looks a little cheap and boring to me. I'm not really sure whose going to buy any of these pieces from this collection, let alone wear them in public. However, this collection is indeed, very Versace with all the crazy prints and bold colors. I'm predicting that the pieces that look the least Versace (ie. the plain items such as the black suits and dress shirts) will sell out first. Meh.

Lady Gaga stars in this new video for MAC's VIVA Glam lipstick AIDS fundraising initiative. Styled by Nicola Formichetti, Gaga appears to be ethereally floating and then dashing across the screen like a fairy or wood nymph. Images of her monsters (aka fans) flash over top of her and apparently messages from her fans inspired the design of her outfit.

I'm a huge Lady Gaga fan and I'm LOVING this video! It reminds me of the amazing Kate Moss hologram that opened an Alexander McQueen show back in 2006 (see below). Gaga truly has a knack for revisiting pivotal pop culture moments and she's extremely talented at reinventing and reinterpreting them to suit her marketing and artistic needs. As the saying goes, don't hate the player, hate the game.

The Olympic Games are touching down in London next summer and to commemorate this epic occasion, Y-3 is launching a special Great Britain themed collection for spring/summer 2012. I'm a true Brit at heart (I lived there for a few years in my youth and fell in love with all things English) and I'm a total sucker for anything emblazoned with the Union Jack. Britannia will surely be pleased by this tribute and by this stunning collection--I can't wait to see the rest!

Watch! The Avengers Trailer

This is the new trailer for The Avengers movie coming out next year. Part of me feels like I should be more impressed by this trailer than I actually am--meh. When I watch this clip, the plot already seems kinda predictable. There will be tensions between Tony Stark's arrogance and the other Avengers, Black Widow will be the sexy femme fatale of the movie, Bruce Banner will have issues controlling his anger, Hawkeye will be the comic relief of the film, Captain America will be the serious one, and they will ultimately all unite, get over themselves and join to fight a common enemy threatening the freedom of Western civilization. Oh yeah, I'm sure there will be lots of gunfire and explosions too. Let's hope I'm completely wrong and that this movie has some believable performances and that it's cleverly written. Joss Whedon is directing this film so it could potentially be brilliant, but time will tell I suppose....

Simons Fall 2011 Mens Ad Campaign

I recently visited Montreal's best kept fashion secret, La Maison Simons, and I was completely blown away by the selection for both men and women, as well as, the fabulous range of top notch designers (Rick Owens, Y-3, Neil Barrett, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, Marc Jacobs and so many more) that the store carries. This is the fall ad campaign for their menswear collections and I'm totally feeling the direction that Simons is moving in with these ads. The styling is dark, edgy, modern and super sexy--I think I secretly want all of these looks!

Photo Essay: 27 Hours in Montreal, Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition and More!

Last weekend, I spent 27 fabulous hours in Montreal and to be honest, my trip was way too short. But I did make the most of every second while I was there and I soaked up as much of Montreal's European sensibility as I possibly could.

The primary reason for my visit to the charming city was to see the Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective exhibition at the city's Museum of Fine Art. The show was completely AMAZING and I was completely blown away by the sheer beauty and creative genius of every piece that was on display--I had literally died and woke up in Jean Paul Gaultier heaven!

Besides checking out the JPG show, I also went to the infamous La Maisons Simons for the first time and I found some treasures at Reborn in Old Montreal. Needless to say, I had a BLAST and I'm aching to visit again in the near future. Check out my pics below - enjoy!

Gladstone Hotel Relaunches Melody Bar

Earlier this week, I attended the VIP relaunch party for the Gladstone Hotel's Melody Bar. The cozy and intimate space has been renovated and transformed into a modern and contemporary venue complete with art installations and a small stage.

I ran into HGTV's Peter Fallico and chatted to him briefly about his thoughts on the renos. He was definitely a fan of the textured fabric on the ceiling and we both agreed that the venue was more aesthetically pleasing and more modern than it was previously. However, the evening wasn't all about the design; guests sipped on luscious cocktails and nibbled on samosas, nachos and corn muffins--delish! The Melody Bar is a great place to meet up with friends for after-work drinks and a fab destination to check out some live entertainment!

I'm a huge Jeremy Scott fan and I loved his first collection for Swatch, but I'm not really feeling any of these pieces from his second collection. This time around, the collection is far more whimsical and as a result, harder to wear. Maybe I'm just old or a bit too practical, but these watches are a bit too provocative for my tastes. However, I do find the x-ray vision watch interesting and I'm predicting that it will be the most coveted piece from this collection. This collection hits select Swatch stores later this month.

Yasmin Warsame at the Toronto 7 for All Mankind Flagship Store Launch

Just in time for the Toronto International Film Festival, 7 for All Mankind launched their first Canadian flagship store in Toronto's Yorkdale Mall last night. To celebrate the luxury denim brand's entry into Canada, a party was held at the store and featured a bunch of denim art installations and sculptures created by some of Canada's leading artists. Supermodel Yasmin Warsame was the guest of honour at the party and she totally wurrrrrrrked the party! I'm a huge Yasmin fan and I tried to get a picture with her, but unfortunately--I was unsuccessful :-(. Nonetheless, the party was a blast and the denim offerings were amazing. 7 for All Mankind is all about the glamour and their denim effortlessly exudes red carpet fabulosity!

Last week, I attended my first Britney Spears concert during her stop here in Toronto on her Femme Fatale tour. I love all things "POP" and Britney is THE quintessential pop star and pop culture icon. So needless to say, when a ticket to her show came my way (thanks Ken!), I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see her perform live.

I was completely ambivalent because I've heard many stories about Britney's bad lip-synching and her lackadaisical dance performances, but to my delight, she totally BROUGHT it and gave a solid performance. I'm sure that she probably lip-synched 95% of the show, but the magical feeling of being in the presence of a true pop star made up for any short comings Ms. Spears may have had.

The story of the Femme Fatale tour was told through a series of video interludes starring Britney as a secret agent who thwarts a rival spy's every attempt to capture her. Her song and dance between each of the video clips was supposed to be like scenes in a film leading up to the finale where she ultimately succeeds in outwitting her antagonist and celebrating her victory by dancing 'til the world ends. Ah-mazing! Check out my videos above for more of what I saw, my apologies for the poor sound quality (that's what I get for taking my Sony Cybershot...).

Raf Simons always pushes the design envelope and this new video, which was shot during a fitting, highlights pieces from his upcoming fall/winter 2011 collection. Raf's craftsmanship and minimalist vision never cease to impress or amaze me and this clip reinforces his design genius. I'm not too sure about the fuzzy wool blended jacket (kinda looks like a bear of some sort to me), but I love everything else and especially all of the other jackets. The clever diagonal boxy pockets on the wool coats and the playful colours and proportions make these pieces uniquely Raf Simons.

J. Crew Launches First Store in Toronto, Canada

Earlier this week, Toronto's fashion and media elite made their way to the launch of the first ever Canadian J. Crew retail location in Yorkdale mall. I'm a huge fan of J. Crew and I was excited and eager to see what the American retailer had in-store for its Canadian female shoppers.

The sales floor was cleverly merchandised with a range of products from beautifully tailored suits, colourful dresses, cozy jackets, sexy boots, chic wedges, stylish hats, a range of luxe bags, belts, beauty accessories and so, so, so... much more. The primary colour scheme for the fall collection consisted primarily of neutral tones with a variety of brilliant reds and smoldering oranges.

My favourite items were definitely the leopard print pumps (see above) and the luxurious leather bags - GORGE! The great thing about these pieces, and J. Crew collections in general, is the versatility of the pieces which can easily be dressed up or down for simple, but sophisticated day or evening looks. The only drawback about this new location is that it only carries womenswear, but I did overhear that a menswear location is definitely in the works and coming to Toronto soon - YAY!!!

This is the new fall/winter 2011 ad campaign video for Zara's Young collection. It's pretty standard Zara-wear and nothing too crazy or mind-blowing. The men's bomber jacket featured in this commercial kind of reminds me of Alexander Wang's leather trimmed one (see below) with less leather embellishments. I think the textile mix of leather (or faux leather in Zara's case) with wool or cotton is definitely a fall trend that we're going to be seeing a lot of in the next little while.

Diesel Fall/Winter 2011 Ad Campaign

This is Diesel's ad campaign for fall/winter 2011 and to be honest, it really doesn't do anything for me. It looks like every other Diesel ad campaign with a bunch of models trying to look edgy in their Diesel jeans.

Diesel is a great mid-level fashion house and I usually turn to this brand for basics and staples, but beyond that, Diesel collections aren't really that interesting. You know this collection will have some shiny jackets, a ton of different denim cuts and multiple shirts overtly emblazoned with the Diesel branding or the Diesel logo. In other words, I guess Diesel is just predictable.

The It Gets Better project is something that I hold very dear to my heart because I've been there and I know what it feels like to be bullied on a day-to-day basis, to the point that I started to wonder what the point of living was. I'm so glad that this project and anti-bullying initiative has been embraced by so many celebrities and people in positions of power that can truly touch and influence people's lives.

Stephen Colbert is the ultimate pop culture and political satirist of the 21st century and I'm delighted to see this video in which he shares an insightful and empowering anecdote in support of the It Gets Better project. He is definitely one of pop culture's strongest voices and his words and story will truly make a difference to someone, somewhere, struggling with a bully.

This video provides a glimpse at Chalayan's collection for the Black Label, as well as, a behind-the-scenes look at his design inspirations and creative design innovations. I can never get enough Jeremy Scott in my life and I love the creativity and innovation that's gone into this collection. I'm a huge fan of this designer collaboration and I'm extremely disappointed to learn that this will be Jil Sander's final collection for the Japanese fashion retail giant. The coats are gorgeous and the impeccable tailoring is what makes these coats collectible and uniquely Jil Sander. Let's hope that Ms. Sander has been inspired by the success of her collaboration with Uniqlo and that she decides to continue pushing the fashion envelope with her visionary and innovative designs!

This is a peek at Y-3's F/W 2011 ad campaign starring Robin Ahrens and shot by Collier Schorr. The pieces featured in these ads look more like items that would be found in a Yohji Yamamoto collection rather than one from Y-3. The voluminous coats and scarves are a slight departure from the usual sleek and streamlined silhouettes that Y-3 is infamous for, but it's definitely refreshing to see Yohji move in a more abstract high fashion direction with this ad campaign.

Y-3 takes it to the countryside in this new campaign video for fall/winter 2011, directed by Collier Schorr. The F/W 2011 collection has a lot of plaid and rustic inspirations, so the juxtaposition of pieces from the collection against forested mountains is fitting. The voluminous styling of the scarves around the models' necks is uber fashion forward and oh so Yohji--gorge!

This is a glimpse at the F/W 2011 collection from H&M, featuring Clément Chabernaud. I like the sartorial direction that H&M is moving in with this collection as a majority of the pieces are more refined than what I would normally expect from this fashion retail giant. I especially like the leather motorcycle jacket, leather biker vest, and tuxedo coat with tails. I see inspirations from Jil Sander and Raf Simons in the sharp tailoring, colour palette and colour blocking applied to certain items. Some of this collection is a bit out there for the average guy, but maybe that's a good thing. Thoughts?

A few weeks ago, I attended the launch party for a new design store located in the heart of Toronto called Free My Interior. Owners Aaron Furfaro and Zina Nelku reclaim, redesign and reinvent designer decor pieces that help beautify any living space. Furniture found in thrift stores, garbages and friends and family homes receive loving makeovers and transformations into lux and highly covetable pieces of decorating gorgeosity!

They have a range of items that include furniture, accessories and lighting. But if you can't seem to find exactly what you're looking for, don't worry because Aaron and Zina can create a custom piece especially for your unique space! My favourite items in the store were definitely the pillows and cushions that were customized with reclaimed vintage dresses - LOVE!!! Swedish pop and dance sensation, Robyn, descended upon Toronto's newest outdoor beach venue, Echo Beach, to perform a hit-filled rocking set! An audience full of hipsters and boys danced, cheered and sang along to the number one Swedish songtress' infectious electronic dance tunes. Hits like Dancing On My Own, Indestructible, Call your Girlfriend, Every Heartbeat, Hang with Me, and Show Me Love got the crowd moving and begging for more. The Richmond: Toronto's First Green Venue

A few weeks ago, I was invited to check out Toronto's first green venue, The Richmond. The venue is a beautiful loft space with gorgeous reclaimed wood detailing throughout and lux modern finishes. It's the perfect place to hold a fabulous party, wedding reception, or business event. I loved the open concept of the space and the delicious appetizers created by the venue's preferred caterers. Chef Toben of Toben Food By Design had the star hors d'oeuvre of the evening with a yummy chicken taco (see pic above). The Richmond is totally the place to be fabulous, but environmentally friendly at the same time!

He effortlessly breathes life into the clothes and the juxtaposition of his freakish appearance with these refined pieces makes them pop even more. I'm completely in love with this campaign!

Earlier this week, Ricardo Larrivée was in town to promote his new line of cookware. Items that can be found in this collection range from spatulas, spoons, and silicone muffin pans to pots, frying pans, dishware and more. All of the pieces in Ricardo's cookware collection are chic, practical and highly functional. He carefully designed all of his cookware with cooks in mind, so each piece makes cooking a lot easier and more enjoyable. One specific product design feature that I absolutely love is, the handles on all of the pots and pans also function as spoon rests - so clever! No more drippy drips on the stove for me!

However, one thing that kind of perplexes me about the movie Marvel universe is the fact that Chris Evans played the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies and now he's playing Steve Rogers (aka. Captain America) - are we supposed to forget that the Fantastic Four movies ever happened? Regardless, I'm sure I'll end up at the theatre to see this one, how about you?

Genest's bold and edgy look effortlessly commands attention and forces your eyes to consume all that the imagery has to offer. The clothes (all by Mugler) are gorgeous and the styling is simple and effective. I want all of it! Earlier this month I checked out a new gourmet burger bar here in Toronto called M:Brgr. Located in the centre of the theatre district, this snazzy dining establishment is the perfect destination for an after-work bite or a post-show nibble.

The menu consists of delicious gourmet burger bar type fare and some of the delectable delights featured on the menu include: mini bite-sized grilled cheese sandwiches, pogos on a stick, vegetarian sliders, beef sliders, gourmet macaroni and cheese, gourmet french fries, and tuna wrapped in lettuce leaves. The sliders were out of this world and the tuna wrapped in lettuce leaves was absolutely decadent. The ambiance of the restaurant is hip and modern (much like the clientele) with lots of effortless style oozing throughout the decor.

Gourmet burger bars are definitely up and coming as major foodie destinations and M:Brgr is totally leading the way with its tasty menu and fresh contemporary dining approach. If you've never been to a burger bar before, I would definitely recommend checking out M:Brgr - I promise you won't be disappointed!

I Saw Janet Jackson!!! (Toronto 3/12/2011)

I had the pleasure of seeing Janet Jackson in concert last weekend and I had a busy week, so I'm only finally getting the pics up today. But better late than never is what I always say.

I'm a huge Janet fan and I remember the first time that I ever saw Janet was in 1990. Back in the day, before online ticket purchasing was even invented, people would camp outside of malls with Ticketmaster locations in hopes of getting good seats. Twenty one years ago, a good friend and I camped outside for tickets to Janet's Rhythm Nation 1814 tour and we succeeded in getting 6th row on the floor for her stop in Edmonton. It was an amazing show and I was blown away by her performance and the positive socially conscious message that Janet had for her concert's attendees. Rhythm Nation 1814 was all about people united through music and dance without racial prejudice. It was definitely a time when race issues were rampant in America and Janet was definitely one of the only artists at that time that took an official stand against the daily injustices that occurred to individuals based on the colour of their skin.

Fast forward to 2011, Janet is still going strong and music and dance have never been more united than on the stage of her show. The message this time around wasn't as socio-politically charged as 1990's show was and it was more about celebrating Janet's successful recording career. This was her Greatest Hits tour and Janet delighted us non-stop all night with hit after hit and signature dance move after signature dance move. The venue was smaller and as a result, the show was more intimate and personal. Some of the highlights of the night for me included hearing obscure classics like Diamonds, Doesn't Really Matter, and Best Things in Life Are Free and I fully enjoyed seeing Janet break out into her iconic dance routines for If and Miss You Much. There was a heart-wrenching tribute during Scream to her late brother, the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson and I couldn't help but feel the intense emotion of the crowd and I got a bit verklempt myself. All in all, Janet rocked the Toronto crowd and Ms. Jackson showed us that she can still be nasty if she wants to be.

Lady Gaga pranced down the Thierry Mugler runway today and she completely rocked the fashion show! She premiered a new track called Government Hooker and this whole collection was a total tribute to her Gaganess.

I loved all of the pieces and the looks were definitely innovative, sexy, and fashion forward. However, I'm not sure how commercial or wearable some of these pieces really are. The house of Mugler is notorious for fashion-art pieces that only the most daring and fiercest-of-the-fierce can pull off.

Personally, I think that the pointy exaggerated shoulder silhouette is o-v-a, but the overall tailoring, creative vision and aesthetic is collectively astounding. It's so important to have a designer like Nicola Formichetti at the helm of this fashion house because this atelier provides the perfect platform for his visionary voice to be heard and his talents to be showcased, appreciated and admired. He is definitely sparking conversations through his designs and I for one, am completely listening.

This is the first video (a second video will be released at a later date via iTunes)for Lady Gaga's single Born This Way, directed by famed fashion photographer Nick Knight, Laurieann Gibson and Lady Gaga. It tells the sci-fi story of the manifesto of Mother Monster who exists in a world where there is no prejudice. Ultimately, because the multi-verse isn't perfect, she is divided in two and torn between good and evil.

In this video, I definitely see inspirations taken from the Aliens movie franchise, the art of H.R. Giger, the visuals surrounding Madonna's Reinvention tour, Madonna's Express Yourself video, and Michael Jackson. The beauty about Lady Gaga is her ability to look at key pop culture landmarks, take inspiration from them and make them her own by giving them a Gaga spin. I can't help myself from loving the positive message and stunning visuals found in this video clip. Gaga never disappoints and I have no doubt that this video will only further propel the success of this pop anthem!

Sexy Raf Simons Lace-Up Sneakers for S/S 2011!

Raf never disappoints and the gorgeous details of this shoe completely take these trainers to the next level. The sporadic positioning of the shoelace eyelets is completely edgy, modern and visionary all at the same time. They kinda feel a bit bondage with a touch of modern-goth thrown in for good fashion aesthetic measure. You could easily add interest to any outfit by simply slipping on these sexy shoes - yes please!!!

Jeremy Scott for Linda Farrow Winged Sunglasses

Jeremy Scott has totally upped his fashion ante for spring/summer 2011. Earlier this week we learned of his collaboration with Swatch and here we have an eye wear offering from Jeremy and Linda Farrow. I totally get where this collaboration is going, as the wings are Jeremy Scott's iconic trademark, but I'm not sure who can really pull these off besides Lady Gaga, Kanye West, or Dame Edna. With that being said, I do appreciate the design and overall aesthetic of these sunglasses. Maybe it's just me, but I think they're more of a fashion art piece rather than a functional pair of sunglasses. Thoughts?

Video: Beth Ditto - I Wrote The Book

I'm a huge Beth Ditto fan and this is the video for her new single, I Wrote the Book, produced by Simian Mobile Disco. This entire video pays homage to the controversial video projects that Madonna produced back in the day when it was considered edgy and risque to depict scenes of homosexuality and sadomasochism in music videos.

Madonna's Justify My Love and Erotica music videos were the primary inspirations for this video (see below). The hair, makeup, styling and cinematography is spot on and I can't get over how well Beth Ditto has reinterpreted and reinvented Madonna's visuals for this video -- she's totally BROUGHT it and looks gorgeous at the same time!

Beth Ditto is definitely one of pop music and pop culture's rising stars and she's also a visionary style and fashion icon in her own right. This video just reinforces the fact that Beth truly is a "pop" force to be reckoned with. I can't wait to see what's next from Ms. Ditto!

Jeremy Scott for Swatch

Jeremy Scott is definitely one of the most interesting contributors to fashion and popular culture as we know it. I remember first hearing about him when his work was featured in Madonna's controversial video for her single American Life and ever since I've been a huge fan. He has totally taken urban and street wear to another level with his innovative designs and fashion forward vision. His collaboration with Adidas has been a huge success and I recently saw Anne Hathaway rocking a pair of his iconic gold wing-tipped high tops for the Academy Awards.

Here we have his most recent collaboration with Swatch time pieces. I'm loving the lightning bolt and wing tipped Swatches. I think either of these watches would instantly add some fun, interest and pop cultural REAL-NESS to any outfit! The graphic design elements of these items are so clever and well executed. These watches hit stores on March 3rd and I'm positive these will definitely sell out in the first week of release. Exciting!!!!

Y-3 Spring/Summer 2011 Ad Campaign Film

I just discovered this new ad campaign film for Y-3's Spring/Summer collection. At first glance, I thought Justin Timberlake was cast in this commercial, but as the film progressed I realized that it wasn't him. The styling and look of this film short is inspired by Yohji Yamamoto's love for rock'n roll and the dark energy that's behind it. I can totally see the edgy rocker direction that Yohji is moving towards in this video and I LOVE it!

Naturally, I want all of the pieces seen in this video and I'm loving each of the looks. My favourite look (if I had to pick just one ;-) is at 0:14 with the vest over the tank top and shorts - GORGE!!! Yohji Yamamoto has grown this brand into a highly covet-able luxury staple and like fine wine -- it just gets better and better each season!

Video: X-Men: First Class Trailer

This is the official trailer for the newest movie in the X-Men film franchise, X-Men: First Class. I'm a huge X-Men fan and I liked all three of the other films, but this one seems a little underwhelming to me. It kind of feels like a film that the studio has put out just to ca$h in on the popularity of superhero films in popular culture at the moment.

There's a part of me that's starting to think superhero movies are over, due to the impending over saturation of fantastical hero movies in the movie viewing marketplace in the next few months and year to come (Green Lantern, Thor, and Captain America films are set to be released throughout 2011 and additional Batman, Spiderman, and Superman films are slated for 2012 releases). I'm sure I'll still end up at the 3-D release of this film (you know there will be a 3-D release ;-), but I guess time will tell if superhero inspired films still have the ability to pack a punch at the box office and reign $upreme.

There's a subtle and understated sexiness in all of these pieces that definitely speaks volumes to the discerning eye. I'm loving all of these looks and especially the leather jackets and knapsack. Delicious Dim Sum at Emperor's Palace, Edmonton

My latest piece for Food Network Canada...

In celebration of the first day of the Chinese New Year, I'd like to share my most recent dim sum discovery in Edmonton. As you may recall from my Dim Sum Spotlight last year, dim sum is an institution in my family. Those delicious bite-sized menu items along with ample cups of chrysanthemum tea go hand in hand with endless hours of socializing and quality family time. Going for dim sum in Edmonton is definitely a popular social activity and new restaurants serving this Chinese-style brunch are always opening up.

This time around, my mother was excited to check out a newly-opened restaurant called the Emperor's Palace, located in the heart of Edmonton's Chinatown. From the outside, it appears to be a typical restaurant, but as soon as you enter the lobby, you're greeted by a fabulous gold throne and glitzy accents that you'd typically associate with a royal dining room (fancy chandeliers, beautiful tables, etc.). Chinese restaurants can be a bit over the top (and downright tacky!) when it comes to decor, but in this case, the extravagant interior design set the mood and subtly hinted at what was in store meal-wise.

Being the dim sum connoisseurs that we are, my family and I like to order the standard items on every dim sum menu first -- which include shrimp dumplings - har gou, pork dumplings - siu mai and rice noodle rolls - cheong fun. A good dim sum restaurant can be determined by how well the shrimp is de-veined and the amount of fatty meats included in any one menu item. I'm delighted to report that these basic dishes all passed with flying colours! Every piece of shrimp was vein-less and the meat fillings in all of the other various dishes were deliciously lean.

From the basics, we like to move on to some of the more obscure delicacies including: chicken feet - fung zao, ginger tripe - gnau ba yip, and beef tendon. These dishes can often be hit or miss, but in this case, all three exceeded our expectations and took our taste buds to a whole new level.

The chicken feet was flavourful and fall-off-the-bone tender, the ginger tripe literally melted in our mouths, and the beef tendon was packed with rich luscious flavours. Also noteworthy, was the the pork and preserved duck egg congee which was prepared to the perfect consistency (not too thick and not too runny) and packed with lots of pork and duck egg. All of the other dishes we ordered were equally tasty using the finest ingredients. The service in this restaurant was exceptional as they never ran out of menu items and our tea pot was always full. Overall, our meal was fit for royalty and this restaurant truly lived up to its name.

Last night, I attended the opening night party for Toronto's Interior Design Show 2011 and I'm glad to report that it was a BLAST!!! The party itself was way better this year, compared to last year's mediocre affair. Kudos to the IDS11 organizers for throwing a fabulous PAR-TAY!!!!

I mixed and mingled with a few celebrity designers and caught up with Sarah Richardson, Tommy Smythe, Peter Fallico, Alfred Sung, Andrew Pike, Steven and Chris, Glenn and David Dixon and more! The evening was full of gorgeous decor, visionary interior designs, beautiful people, great music and luscious drinks.

Some of the major design trends that I noticed for 2011 include: reclaimed wood used in furniture and accents; exposed wood grain in flooring, furniture, and paneling; and pendant lighting made of various materials and textiles in a variety of interesting shapes. I'm a total decor enthusiast, but so long as you have an interest in the beautification of interior spaces -- there's absolutely something for everyone at the show! Video: Lady Gaga & Mugler - Born This Way Remixed

Lady Gaga continues to create and provoke with this new remix of her forthcoming single, Born This Way. She personally remixed it and the track premiered at the Mugler Men's Spring 2011 runway show yesterday.

Gaga's stylist, Nicola Formichetti, has been appointed creative director for Thierry Mugler and he had this video (set to the soundtrack of Gaga's new remix) created for the atelier. It features Canadian model Rick Genest and is shot by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco. Genest's body is completely tattooed to look like a skeleton and the clip is interspersed with scenes of him and the Spring 2011 Mugler men's runway presentation. It's a minimal/goth/punk/rocker/avante garde fashion orgy and personally, I LOVE it! Buttons will totally be pushed by this visually provocative and stimulating fashion film short -- PUSH away I say! This is a refreshing breath of fashion and pop culture air, that only Gaga and her crew could execute so flawlessly, effortlessly and beautifully!

This new Calvin Klein commercial directed by Fabien Baron, features Tyson Ballou and Lara Stone. It's set to debut during the Golden Globe Awards. I'm not really a huge Calvin Klein fan, but I love the direction that the brand is moving with this commercial. The cool and minimal aesthetic of the cinematography really functions to highlight the beauty and modernity of the pieces featured in this commercial. I haven't found CK sexy in a long time, but this clip is so effortlessly sexy and extremely visually stimulating - I want to see more!!!

This is Dior Homme's first venture into the area of promotional digital media in the form of a video short shot by Willy Vanderperre. It roughly showcases pieces from the S/S 2011 collection in an edgy and visually provocative fashion vignette starring Victor Nylander. I love the styling and concept behind this clip and it completely resonates with the Dior Homme brand. More and more fashion houses and brands are starting to realize the potential and influence of digital media and it's only a matter of time before we are inundated with a flood of luxurious creative visuals -- I can't wait!!!

Video: Lady Gaga for Polaroid Grey Label Products

The highly anticipated collaboration between Lady Gaga and Polaroid was revealed yesterday at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. The Gaga-fied products include: a pair of camera sunglasses, a portable printer that is capable of receiving blue tooth signals from mobile devices, and a redesigned Polaroid camera that shoots digital images and prints digital files instantaneously.

I think the camera sunglasses and the redesigned Polaroid camera are definitely the highlights from this Gaga and Polaroid initiative. I can totally see Lady Gaga fans rocking these sunglasses and I'm predicting that the reinvented camera will reclaim it's place in pop culture as the goto camera for instantaneous imaging, as there currently isn't anything comparable in the market today. Lady Gaga´s celebrity and creative vision has definitely helped to revive the Polaroid brand, but time will tell whether or not this joint venture brings the company back into relevance. With that said, I'm secretly dying to try the sunglasses - too cool!

I'm loving both variations of the classic black boot pictured above and either of these pieces would instantly step up any outfit. At first, I was loving the motorcycle/motorcross boots with the buckles more, but now I'm torn between the two. Clean minimal lines, functional side zippers to help you step in and out, and beautiful cowhide leather construction - how can you not fall in love with them?

Tom Ford Eyewear S/S 2011 Campaign

Earlier this week I was lamenting the glamour and fabulosity that Tom Ford brought to fashion in the late '90s. It was in the latter half of this decade (with the advent of Tom Ford leading design at Gucci) that fashionistas, celebrities and everyday people took pride in feeling a little glamourous and overtly sexy. We may not have all owned a piece of Gucci, but the imagery, attitude and the fabulousness which Gucci and Tom ford imparted onto pop culture and everyday life was inexplicably influential on multiple levels. You couldn't help but to embrace the feeling and own it. I miss these days immensely...

Well to my delight, twice in one week, Mr. Ford has totally BROUGHT it in terms of upping the glamour ante of days gone by. First there was the campaign video for his latest womenswear collection (which I LOVED) and now we've been given a peek at some of the images from his latest eyewear campaign. The makeup, styling and clothes in these images all work together to create a level of glamour that I haven't felt since those Gucci ad campaigns shot by Steven Meisel from back in the day. Joost Van Der Hulst and Abbey Lee Kershaw look stunning in these shots and were perfectly cast for this brand - they effortlessly ooze the coolness and sexiness that Tom Ford is known for. If this is any indication of what's in store for fashion in 2011, I have a feeling glam, glam and more GLAM will definitely be on the fashion plate.

I was just thinking to myself the other day how much I missed the GLAMOUR and FABULOUS-NESS that Tom Ford brought to fashion when he was designing for Gucci. Well, low and behold the fashion gods and goddesses must have heard my thoughts because here we have a video of Tom Ford's Spring/Summer 2011 women's wear presentation. And it's complete and utter GLAMOUR at its best!

Supermodels, pop stars and Hollywood actresses grace the Tom Ford runway and the pieces from this collection are flawlessly stunning, innovative, and most importantly - beautiful. Sensuality and sexuality are overt and subtle all at the same time and slim silhouettes, luxurious fabrics (love the blue fringed dress!) and provocative cuts all work together to define the Tom Ford woman. She is strong, confident, flirty, stylish and sexy. I love how highly stylized this video is and that it has been edited in a fashion that resonates with the Tom Ford aesthetic. One could argue that this clip verges on being pretentious, but it's not, rather it's a concise depiction of Tom Ford's take on women, fashion and beauty. Amazing!

I'm totally underwhelmed by these two pieces from the collection and they kinda verge on being boring. The passing of Alexander McQueen earlier this year has definitely impacted this diffusion line and by the looks of this preview, I'm not sure if it's gonna get any better. Fingers crossed...

Reebok + TRON Legacy Collection

The number of TRON Legacy collaborations is astounding and it seems like every major brand has something TRON related to offer. Here we have Reebok's contribution to the TRON Legacy product hoopla in the form of TRON-ified versions of the classic Insta Pump and Court Victory Pump. I'll admit it, I'm kinda feeling the Insta Pump above with the blue electric circuitry. Needless to say, these will definitely be coveted by sneaker collectors worldwide and they're sure to sell out.

TRON Room in Sweden's Ice Hotel

The infamous Ice Hotel in Sweden has caught onto the TRON Legacy hype and created a TRON-themed guest room (watch the room come together below). The TRON theme totally works with the Ice Hotel and blue illuminated ice easily resembles the computer generated world featured in the movie. I'm not sure if I could last a night in this room (I can't handle the cold...), but I'm loving the concept and execution of this sci-fi accomodation! Shopping Lanvin for H&M

Today was the day that the Lanvin for H&M diffusion collection hit select H&M stores globally. As you may know, I was coveting a few of the pieces from this collection so I woke up at the crack of dawn early this morning and made my way down to H&M here in Toronto. I got there about an hour and fifteen minutes before the store opened and there was already a substantial line up, with some people camping out from the night before.

I got my place in line and luckily I wasn't too far back from the door. Standing in line with a bunch of fashion hungry fashionistas isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I always find it exciting and invigorating to shop these H&M designer diffusion collections. I especially love to watch everyone hectically rush to the racks of designer luxury with hopes of getting a piece (or pieces) from the collection that they'll love and rock out over the season. With a little strategy and persistence, I managed to score a couple of jackets and a couple of pairs of shoes. I was all about shopping for basic key pieces from this collection and I'm LOVING the items I was fortunate enough to get my hands on! How about you, did you get anything from this collection?
