Saint Laurent for Daft Punk

Saint Laurent for Daft Punk
Hedi Slimane, creative director of Saint Laurent Paris, is known for his creative collaborations with famous musicians and this recent pairing of the legendary fashion house with the iconic electronic group, Daft Punk, comes as no surprise. For their new music video and tour, Daft Punk get adorned in fabulous sequined suits by the French fashion house, and the band also star in this new ad campaign. I love the look and feel of this campaign and the stylish suits only help to add to the mystique and cool factor surrounding Daft Punk. Check out the videos below for a peek at the designs basking in their electronic-fashion glory!

Watch Online: Daft Punk's Random Access Memories - The Collaborators Series ft. Giogio Moroder and Todd Edwards

Daft Punk Random Access Memories
Daft Punk's Random Access Memories album cover
Daft Punk's long awaited new album, Random Access Memories, will be released on May 21 and to generate buzz around the upcoming release, Intel and VICE have launched a web series called The Collaborators. The series catches up with the different producers and artists that have contributed to the album and explores their experiences working on the project.

Legendary disco music producer and artist, Giorgio Moroder, is the first interviewee of the series and the second interview in the series is with musician, Todd Edwards. It's interesting and fascinating to hear these two artists describe their experiences working with the enigmatic Daft Punk duo and their stories provide a rare glimpse into the band's creative process. I'm a huge Daft Punk fan and I found these videos enlightening and inspiring. Check them out below and let me know what you think.

Lunch at Toronto's Momofuku Noodle Bar

Table setting at Toronto's Momofuku Noodle Bar

Last week, me and a dear friend finally made our way to David Chang's infamous Momofuku Noodle Bar here in Toronto. The restaurant is located in the luxe Shangri-La hotel and condominium complex and lineups to get into this Asian eatery at dinnertime are beyond ridiculous, so we decided to try our luck with lunch. We arrived shortly after noon and, to our delight, had no issues getting a seating for two.

The interior was just as we expected, a large open concept space with rows of long tables and bench seating (if you're not a fan of potentially sitting at a table with complete strangers then this restaurant may not be the best choice for you). A free standing kitchen complete with chefs prepping and cooking entrees is definitely one of the highlights of this restaurant because you can see your meal being made right before you. Lots of stainless steel paired with rustic and minimal, wooden furniture definitely boosts the cool factor of Momofuku and it's hard not to get lost in the modern and sexy ambiance of the dining room.

Seven Spice Sour Drink

Because this was our first time eating at the restaurant, my friend and I ordered a number of dishes and shared. We each started with a delightful, slushy sake-based drink called Seven Spice Sour. It had a subtle citrus kick and helped to cleanse our palates. Then, we moved on to an appetizer of BBQ Pigtails served with a side of pickled carrots and pickles. The pigtails were cooked perfectly and the meat was so tender-- it literally melted in our mouths. For our main dishes, we ordered a Smoky Chicken Ramen and a spicy pork ramen called Dan Dan Mein. Both ramen bowls were scrumptious and each dish contained it's own signature flavour profile. As you would guess, the Smoky Chicken Ramen had a hint of smoky flavour mixed with miso, and the Dan Dan Mein had a touch of heat paired with a savoury and sumptuous broth. We both agreed that our favourite dish was definitely the BBQ Pigtails, with the Dan Dan Mein coming in second and the Smoky Chicken Ramen in third. Overall, our meal was comfortingly delicious and I highly recommend eating here if you're a fan of Asian comfort food!

Garbage returned to Toronto on March 29 for a second stop on their Not Your Kind of People tour and I was overjoyed to see them perform for a second time in less than a year (they played in Toronto last year in the month of May). Shirley Manson has a great rapport with Garbage fans and attending this show, I felt as if I was catching up with dear friends that had gone traveling and just returned home. The band belted out many of their hits and the setlist was very similar to the show they played previously. The highlight of the night for me was hearing them play their haunting and beautiful ballad You Look So Fine mashed with Fleetwood Mac's Dreams (see video below) during the encore. Although the audience consisted of a mix of older fans and new fans, one thing is certain -- Garbage never disappoints! Check out the setlist and my videos below for more.

    Lazypants Spring/Summer 2013 Preview

    Lazypants Spring/Summer 2013
    Lazypants Fleece Shorts
Earlier this week, Lazypants presented their spring/summer 2013 collection to Toronto's fashion media elite at Kultura restaurant. Bright neon coloured Lazyhoodies, cozy Lazyshorts and ultra-luxe Lazypants greeted guests of this event and these simple but sophisticated garments set the mood for a lazy evening complete with complimentary massages and luscious Skinny Girl margaritas. Moving beyond traditional colours, Lazypants introduces tie-dye treated fleece (see below) for the upcoming season and the pieces made from this specially treated fabric are definitely the highlights of this new collection. I love the oh-so-soft feeling of any Lazypants piece and putting on a pair of Lazypants is more than reason enough to be lazy!

Eastpak is a brand that has been known to collaborate with some of the fashion industry's most innovative and visionary designers. I was a huge fan of the brand's collaborations with  Raf Simons and Rick Owens, and for the upcoming spring season -- Eastpak features Belgian designer Kris Van Assche. Kris Van Assche has a minimal and modern design sensibility and this partnership is a match made in street wear heaven. The bags found in this collection include a knapsack, a briefcase, a duffel bag, a pocket bag, and a multipurpose bag that can be worn and used in a variety of different ways. My favourites are the duffel bag and the knapsack because they are the most practical and wearable pieces from this collection. Simple and sophisticated with loads of street cred, this collection will definitely be a hit with all urban fashion lovers. You can shop this collection at Hypebeast's online store.

Modern and Functional Seating from Matali Crasset for Campeggi

Matali Crasset modular sofa for Campeggi
I love any piece of furniture that is modern, minimal and functional. So needless to say, I'm a huge fan of this sleek and stylish “ConcentrĂ© de Vie” modular sofa by French designer Matali Crasset for Campeggi. Without any legs, this sofa sits on the ground and is comprised of a frame with two L-shaped cushions, two square cushions, and a pad. The genius and beauty of this piece can be seen in the multiple configurations (see below) that the components of this sofa form when mixed and matched -- a single bed, armrest, footstool and pouf. With the rise of smaller living spaces in most urban centres, this sofa would easily add style, function and value. It makes its debut at the Salone Internazionale de Mobile in Milan April 9 - 14, 2013.

In celebration of Casio's 30 years of Casio G-Shock watches, the brand has collaborated with minimal fashion design powerhouse Maison Martin Margiela to commemorate the milestone anniversary with the G-Shock GA-300. The watch boasts a transparent skeleton display, a detachable silver leather wristband, and the fashion house's signature numbered branding engraved on the back of the watch. I love both of these brands and this watch will definitely be coveted by collectors and fashion lovers alike. It's a simple accessory that will instantly add interest to any look and imbue the wearer with loads of street cred. This slick timepiece is limited to 3000 units and is available now at Opening Ceremony.
