Giuliano Fujiwara Spring/Summer 2013

I was recently in NYC and had a profound discussion with a dear friend of mine over the state of men's fashion today. My friend, Jay, expressed how bored he was with the current state of menswear and argued that nothing visionary and fashion forward is really going on today in the world of men's fashion. Sadly, I tended to agree with his statements. Menswear has been quite trite and dry for a few seasons and I haven't seen anything mind-blowing in a while. That said, I've always been a fan of the avant-garde aesthetic and there are a few design ateliers that never fail to deliver. Giuliano Fujiwara's s/s 2013 menswear vision is a good indication of the direction that we'll be moving towards next year.
Sleek structured jackets, bold graphic printed shirts, lux fabrics and a nod to utilitarian dressing are all part of Fujiwara's menswear vision for the upcoming year. Subtle layering of neutral separates paired with pops of electric blue accessories add a modern edge to the overall look and feel of this collection. I'm a complete sucker for edgy styling, so obviously--I love all of these looks.  I think the most exciting aspect of this collection for me is the fact that volume is slowly being reintroduced back into men's pants. The skinny silhouette will always have a place in my heart, but it's truly time to turn the volume up a notch. What do you think of Giuliano Fujiwara's s/s 2013 collection?

A Bathing Ape Milo Puppet

Japanese streetwear brand, A Bathing Ape, has definitely been assimilated into the consciousness of popular culture over the past few years and the brand's iconic monkey mascot, Milo, continues to infiltrate the marketplace on many different levels. Here we have a plush puppet of the BAPE character which will be available in BAPE stores for Fall/Winter 2012. My question is, are you supposed to actually put on a show with it or is it merely a collectible only meant for display?

Andrew Richard Designs' "Remember Summers Like This...Stay Foolish" Summer Party

The other night, I attended Andrew Richard Designs' annual summer-themed party, "Remember Summers Like This... Stay Foolish" at the design duo's fabulous showroom and event space. Toronto's finest media darlings, socialites and luxe furniture connoisseurs lounged on exquisite outdoor furniture, mingled over spiked lemonades and nibbled on gourmet grub by some of TO's best caterers including: Art of Food, E11even Restaurant, The Food Dudes, Encore Catering, Daniel et Daniel, Toben and many more.
Atrium area with carnival games and retro lemonade stand

The venue's gorgeous Atrium space was transformed into a mini summer carnival where party goers were given chances to win fun prizes by playing an old-fashioned ring toss or shooting a star target with a cork gun. I played the ring toss and walked away with a giant stuffed Murakami-esque flower! How fun right?!!
Upstairs Loft space transformed into a glam evening patio party
After noshing on a variety of delicious and delightful bites, I made my way upstairs to the Loft space and discovered where the REAL party had moved to. Bellosound had the entire room jumping to classic R&B and hip hop tracks like Q Tip's Vibrant Thing, Missy's Get UR Freak On, MJ's The Way You Make Me Feel and more. I got my groove on into the late evening and basked in the fabulosity that Andrew Richard Designs is renowned for. This party was the perfect start to an amazing summer and it was definitely one of the best parties I've been to this year! Check out my pics below to see more of the gourmet goodness that guests enjoyed.
