Video: Raf Simons F/W 2010 Campaign Film

This is the new Raf Simons Fall 2010 campaign film by Willy Vanderperre. It features glimpses of the collection spliced throughout a scene of a model staring intently at the viewer. I feel this video would be great as a visual backdrop in a Raf Simons boutique, but it loses it's effect and impact on Youtube. It's interesting to say the least, but I wanted to see more of the collection. So, I found a clip of the full Fall/Winter 2010 collection. Enjoy!

Nicholas K Fall 2010

This is a peek at the fall 2010 menswear collection from Nicholas K. I'm feeling a lot of the pieces from this collection and I'm especially loving all of the skinny trousers. Everything looks so comfy and cozy, but stylish and refined all at the same time. The neutral colour palette mixed with the occasional coloured plaid print creates visual interest without being too subdued or overt. All of the hooded pieces are gorge and the shape of the hoods combined with the slender silhouettes create drama without being too costumey or excessive. Nicholas K's fall 2010 menswear offering is simply rustic elegance at its best!

Video: Daft Punk "Derezzed" from TRON Legacy OST

This is the new video for Daft Punk's Derezzed from the TRON Legacy soundtrack. I can't decide if this is more of a music video or more of a commercial for the film or both. Regardless, I'm a huge Daft Punk and TRON fan -- so I'm LOVING this clip! TRON Legacy opens in theatres December 17 and the OST (completely composed by Daft Punk) is available December 7.

Video: Ash Koley's Makeup Tips

I recently met up with Canadian pop music duo Ash Koley and Phil Deschambault for slice.ca to learn about the making of their music video for their single Don't Let Feet Touch Ground and to get some makeup tips from the lead singer.
See my post below...

Ash Koley is a Canadian musical duo comprised of Ash Koley and Phil Deschambault. They recently dropped by slice.ca HQ to chat about music, makeup and more!

Their sound may be described as fun, quirky and upbeat classic pop music. However, I’m sure you’ll easily recognize their catchy and infectious single, Don’t Let Your Feet Touch Ground, which has been featured in numerous television commercials and soundtracks. Award winning director, Anthony Seck, directed the video for this single and from the sounds of it -- the shoot was a blast! Check out the official video and my exclusive clip with Ash and Phil (in which they share some secrets about the making of the video) below.

Each of their unique personal styles shine through in these videos and their secret to looking great is simply to not overthink an outfit and to wear what feels comfortable - it's all about knowing and being yourself. I love this approach and it fits perfectly with their sound and personalities. And, on top of being naturally stylish, Ash is also a huge beauty buff. Lately, she’s become known for her fresh flawless face and signature “Ash Koley Red” lip colour (as seen in the video above), so I asked her to share some of her top beauty tips with us. My favourite is her eyeliner application tip - see it below.

Ash Koley and Phil Deschambault were delightfully charming in person and they're definitely a breath of fresh Canadian pop music air. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for more info about the band and for a free music download. Ash Koley’s debut album, Inventions, is available in stores and for digital download now.

Meeting Margaret Cho

Yesterday, I had the pleasure and honour of seeing and meeting Margaret Cho. I'm a huge Cho fan and meeting her was definitely a total dream come true! My friend Ken bought me a VIP ticket for the show, which included an autographed dvd and the opportunity to meet her and have a picture taken with her. The meet & greet happened at the end after her performance and although she was tired, she didn't let us down. But, because she was burned out from her show, each VIP holder basically got to say hello and have a picture taken before being ushered out of the backstage area. I had prepared some words of gratitude and thanks to share with Margaret, but due to the nature of the situation, I unfortunately wasn't able to tell her everything that I wanted too. So, Margaret, if you're reading this -- this is what I wanted to tell you...

Growing up in the '90s, there were very few visible Asian role models for young Asians to look up to and to be inspired by. This was a time when media and pop culture was predominantly white with the occasional token African-American here and there. In terms of visible Asian role models, we had Bruce Lee, George Takei, Ming-Na Wen, all the women in the Joy Luck Club film, and the All-American Girl - Margaret Cho. A television show all about Asians revolutionized my television viewing landscape and you gave me someone that I could look up to and relate to. From a television network production point of view - I know that the show may not have been the ideal situation for you, but please know that you and your cast's efforts weren't in vain and that you made a difference by being visible and doing your thing. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart because you showed me through your craft and by being yourself that it did get better. You may not realize it, but you've been saving, impacting and changing lives by simply speaking your mind, being true and maintaining your presence. Please don't ever stop doing what you do.

Marvel Comics for TRON

To celebrate and promote the new TRON sequel (TRON Legacy), Marvel comics has incorporated the TRON aesthetic into a variety of variant covers for some of their more popular characters. This is definitely a clever move by Disney and it only makes sense that they would promote the new movie through their comic book division (Disney owns Marvel Comics). Comic book fans make up a huge portion of the target movie-going demographic for this film so I'm sure fans are more than delighted to see their favourite super heroes get the TRON treatment. I'm a huge TRON fan and I personally can't wait to see the sequel in 3D. Oh, and yes, I do love these covers too! ;-)

Video: Freemasons ft. Wynter Gordon "Believer"

This is the video for the huge summer anthem by the Freemasons (ft. Wynter Gordon) called Believer. I love this song and I'm totally feeling the video. However, I'm a bit undecided about Wynter's outfits. Don't get me wrong -- I think she looks amazing throughout the music clip, but I'm just not sure if those outfits would work on anyone else. Thoughts?

It Really Does Get Better...

Bullying is a subject that really hits home for me. I was constantly bullied throughout my junior high and high school years for simply being myself and it was definitely a difficult period of my life. At the time, I frequently entertained the idea of suicide. However, that would have been the easy way out and quite frankly -- I was too much of a coward to actually do it. But I do understand how constant daily harassment, persecution and intimidation can break someone and lead them to take their own life.

I've been extremely sickened and greatly saddened by the recent number of suicides due to bullying. This needs to stop. I know it's easy to say that things get better, but things really do get better. Bullies only have power if you give it to them and they really are nothing outside of a school environment. I know this doesn't make being bullied any easier, but once you're outside of the toxic and negative environment that is high school, you really are able to flourish and shine.

I often felt so alone when I was being bullied because people saw and new exactly what was going on, but they turned a blind eye or completely discounted my experience. To have someone tell me things would get better would definitely have made a difference and it would have made dealing with the day-to-day a bit easier. A bunch of concerned celebrities have recently spoken out about bullying and I've compiled some of their messages below to spread the word, bring awareness and inspire!

This is a peek at some of the pieces from the Fall/Winter 2010 +J collection by Jil sander for Uniqlo. I'm feeling all of these pieces and especially loving the quilted 2-button blazer jacket. Jil Sander never disappoints - minimal, elegant and GORGE! Look for these pieces and more starting on October 7, 2010.
