Rodarte for Maggie Cheung

Rodarte design geniuses, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, have created four hand sewn pieces inspired by the films of Hong Kong film actress Maggie Cheung. Her films In the Mood For Love, Clean, Hero, and Heroic Trio were the inspirations for these gorgeous designs. The looks are set to a beautiful and haunting piano soundtrack composed by Peter Kam and filmed by Wing Shya. For every view of this video, $1HK will be donated to UNICEF until March 31.

I'm a huge Maggie Cheung fan and I can totally see each of her characters in these four pieces. It's always so refreshing to learn about North American designers finding inspiration in foreign films and actors. International cinema is a total breeding ground for fashion creativity and interesting aesthetics and the Mulleavy sisters are totally on to something. It will be interesting to see which other foreign celebrities become fashion muses for Western world designers.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Cafe/Bar

Marc Jacobs just opened a Marc by Marc Jacobs flagship boutique in Milan and it features a stunningly beautiful cafe/bar. I definitely think that we'll begin to see more high fashion boutiques incoroporate cafes/eateries into their design in order to give shoppers the ultimate shopping experience. I don't know of any fashionistas that wouldn't hesitate in taking a break from shopping at their favourite designer's boutique and sipping on a high fashion cappuccino. Besides, who wouldn't love to casually say, "I had a latte at Marc by Marc Jacobs while I was in Milan."

Sophie Ellis Bextor - Bittersweet Video

This is the new single and video Bittersweet from Sophie Ellis Bextor and it's co-written and produced by the Freemasons. Everything that the Freemasons touch instantly turns into dance-pop gold! I'm loving this song and predicting it to be one of this summer's huge anthems. I love the styling and overall graphic aesthetic of this video. It's definitely gonna be a hit! I can't wait to hear the rest of her new album Straight to the Heart which drops in July.

Jeremy Scott's Adidas Mickey Hi

These Jeremy Scott for Adidas Originals high tops feature Mickey Mouse on the tongue and are based on the vintage Adidas sneaker known as the Eldorado. I love the iconic pop culture aspect that Mickey brings to these sneakers and I can totally see fashionistas and sneaker pimps covet these high tops on a global scale. I think that they'll definitely be a pair of shoes that you either really love or really hate.

Meeting J. Alexander

I met J. Alexander this past weekend and the whole experience was a total dream come true for me! My most recent post for

"Miss J" Alexander has always been an inspiration and a fashion hero to me.

Growing up in Alberta in the early '90s, my weekly escape from the monotony and conservative lifestyle of Edmontonian life was getting my weekly fix of Fashion Television. Jeanne Becker would whisk me around the world, take me behind-the-scenes to glamourous fashion shows and introduce me to the fashion world's elite and its rising stars.

I remember one specific episode where there was a segment about a runway coach that worked closely with the '90s supermodels named J. Alexander. His Fashion Television feature went on to reveal how he taught these leading models how to work the runway and went on to show him work it out in a pair of heels. Watching J. Alexander's piece at that time truly impacted and inspired me because he embodied the notion that you can be yourself, achieve anything you put your mind to and be fabulous at the same time!

Fast forward to 2010, J. Alexander has come a long way from his debut on Fashion Television and some of his major accomplishments include being a judge on the hit reality series America's Next Top Model and he recently wrote a book called Follow The Model: Miss J's Guide to Unleashing Presence, Poise, and Power. He was in Toronto over the weekend to promote his book and to host a celebrity runway walk-off (see my video below).

I caught up with J. Alexander at the meet and greet at this event to share my story with him and he was truly touched. You never know if the people you hold up high on a pedestal will let you down or not, but J. Alexander was everything and more than I expected him to be. He was down-to-earth, genuine and completely endearing. I asked him to share some of his fashion DONTs with us and in true Miss J style, he WORKED the video below - check it and enjoy!

Follow the Model: Miss J's Guide to Unleashing Presence, Poise, and Power is available in stores and from online merchants now!

Maison Martin Margiela S/S 2010 Sunglasses

This is a new eyewear offering from Maison Martin Margiela for Spring/Summer 2010. It combines a classic aviator shape within a partial tortoise shell enclosure. I wasn't feeling them at first, but upon second glance I'm starting to appreciate the creative thought behind this aesthetic. These glasses definitely fall under the "wearable art" genre for me and you would definitely need to have a certain look and attitude to pull these off. Minimal and modern, Maison Martin Margiela always pushes the envelope when it comes to stylish, innovative and provocative design.

Gareth Pugh Fall/Winter 2010

I'm LOVING Gareth Pugh's Fall/Winter 2010 collection for all of its modern, minimal, sci-fi and futuristic elements. There isn't a piece that I don't like in this beautiful and highly cohesive collection. The tailoring is creative, strategic and impeccable. He effortlessly plays with shape and proportion in order to achieve riveting and stimulating silhouettes that are bold and silently speak volumes. The creativity and innovative vision behind each piece blows my mind and I especially love all of the long jackets, cloaks and capes. WOW!!!!!!!

Mykita Eyewear

This is an eyewear offering from Mykita, designed by Romain Kremer. It's inspired by the first human in outer space (Yuri Gagarin) and the helmet extension is meant to protect the wearer's brain. I'm not sure if anyone other than Lady Gaga or a superhero could rock this look. These glasses look a bit costumey to me and they're really not functional at all, but I do appreciate the thought behind the design.

Back in the day, I was (and still am ;-) a total nerd and one of my favourite '80s movies was Tron. I was obsessed with this movie and 28 years later a sequel is finally being released - and it's going to be available in 3D!

This trailer for the new film is AWESOME!!! Anything is possible with CGI technology today and I can't wait to be zapped into the world of Tron and have a major sensory overload courtesy of all the amazing special effects and 3D goodness. TRON: LEGACY opens in theaters December 15th, 2010.

Jaclife is a new revolutionary reality web series produced by my dear friend Vanessa Grant and it premieres on this Monday, March 8th.

It stars Toronto socialite, fashionista and fashion designer Jaclyn Genovese and it follows her and her friend's fabulous day-to-day lives and everything in between. JacLife provides a true glimpse into a lifestyle that we've all wondered about and desired at some point.

I shot all of the photos for the JacLife site and Jaclyn and her girls are definitely the real deal. Be sure to check it!!!

Prada S/S 2010

My latest piece for

If you're like me and suffering from the winter fashion blues and you're fed up with wearing layers upon layers underneath a puffy parka in order to deal with the elements, then lets escape together to the fabulous Prada S/S 2010 show for some inspiration!

For S/S 2010, Miuccia Prada has given us a completely wearable collection that seamlessly merges businesswear with beachwear while being cute, minimal and flirty all at the same time. Beautiful technofibers shimmered down the runway and these fabrics were sculpted and tailored into a variety of gorgeous jackets with sharp angles, slim bermuda shorts, short shorts, skirts, dresses and interesting mini-tunic tops that billowed out at the waist. The beachwear aspect of this collection tastefully hints that the wearer could take a leisurely stroll down to the beach if she felt inclined and the elegant tropical prints along with the sexy and revealing tops (that are definitely meant to stimulate the imagination) support this sun and sand inclination. Towards the end of the show, there are a couple of interesting and extravagant crystal and silver embellished dresses that instantly sparkle up the runway and reveal the true innovative design genius that is Prada.

My favourite pieces from this collection are definitely all of the jackets, all of the pieces with the criss-crossed strap treatment and all of the shoes. The inspiration takeaways from this collection for me would have to be: tropical prints, crystal bejewled tops and stilettos, and sexy tinted clear vinyl heels. Ultra chic, uber glamorous and totally luxurious - Prada S/S 2010 totally puts a smile on my face ;-) Check out the video below for some more Prada S/S 2010 goodness!
