Janet Jackson Make Me Video

This is the video for Janet's new single Make Me. I'm LOVING this video and song! Janet has returned to her upbeat dance/pop style and the track was produced by Rodney Jerkins. The futuristic styling and animated effects in this video remind me of Janet and Michael's Scream video and I think it's a tribute to her brother. Janet is definitely back with a vengeance and I think this is the start of her comeback!

Beyonce & Lady Gaga: Video Phone Video

This is the highly anticipated video by Beyonce and Lady Gaga called Video Phone. It was directed by Hype Williams and it totally looks like a Hype Williams video, with the high contrasting over saturated colors and sexy and slick look and feel.

Fashionwise, the only look that I'm feeling is the initial look that Beyonce wears with the cutout bodysuit and the black band of makeup over her eyes - completely inspired by Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner. The rest just looks cheap and a bit tarty.

I'm not sure if Lady Gaga really adds anything to this video or song and I think that Beyonce would have been better off to have done this one solo, but Gaga is hot right now and I guess they thought that they could help boost each others record sales by doing collaborations on each others' album re-releases (Beyonce guests on a Gaga track called Telephone).

This video is not even close to the creative awesomeness of Gaga's Bad Romance video. I think that Beyonce needs to stop hoping that her sexiness will sell her records and that she should actually do something creative for once or hire some creative people to be creative for her.

My thoughts and feelings on this video and song = meh.....

Gift Giving: Umbra's Designer Coin Banks

My latest post for
Have you got a special someone on your list that doesn't like to carry change in their pocket and refuses to carry a change purse?

If so, chances are this individual either has an unsightly dish, jar, ashtray, cup or container that they immediately dump their accumulated change into upon arriving at their home. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having a coin jar, but there are just so many more attractive coin storage options available these days and this is the perfect way to help your loved one save in style.

I'm loving the Arcoino coin bank ($80 CAD, designed by Matt Carr) and Volcoino piggy bank ($30 CAD, designed by Karim Rashid) from Umbra. Either of these would be a great gift for that special person this season!

Both coin banks are stylish, functional and sexy all at the same time. The chrome finish and the design of each of these pieces is modern, sleek, and either bank would instantly add decorative interest to any space. I like the interesting art qualities of these banks, as the Arcoino bank creates the illusion that it grows out of the surface that it rests upon and the Volcoino bank's minimal and simple teardrop shape evokes a tranquil feeling within its beholder.

These coin banks are definitely gifts that will continually give back to any recipient by effortlessly boosting the style factor of their space and by encouraging them to save money. Chic, modern, practical and gorgeous - this is a gift that you can totally bank on being a success!

Lady Gaga Bad Romance

This is the highly anticipated video for Lady Gaga's newest single Bad Romance. I'm LOVING this video and Lady Gaga has truly outdone herself. The entire video is a total performance from beginning to end - complete with multiple costume changes, choreography and effects!

Alexander McQueen Stilettos

My favorite part is the scene where she rocks the Alexander McQueen stilettos and dress, it's a perfect look for her and it completely fits the style of the video. It's been ages since pop music and pop culture has seen and heard someone so fresh, creative, innovative, provocative and visionary. Lady Gaga is the complete package and she has totally raised the bar and set a new "pop" standard with this video. Total Gaga domination is inevitable!

Comme des Garcons + The Beatles

This is the latest designer/pop culture collaboration from Comme des Garcons and The Beatles. Rei Kawakubo has been given the rights to The Beatles imagery and iconography and the collaboration will produce a collection that consists of bags, t-shirts and possibly more depending on the sales performance of the initial run of pieces. I am loving the shape of the bag and the incorporation of the apple within the Comme des Garcons trademark polka dot pattern - clever. I'm excited to see what Kawakubo will come up with next and I'm guessing that we can expect to see some yellow submarines and any other cute Beatles related iconography in future pieces.
